S/V Yolo (S/V means Sailing Vessel) is a 1990 Brewer 44. She is cutter rigged with a bowsprit. The bowsprit makes a great perch for dolphin watching or to reenact your favorite scene from Titanic. Yolo was one of the last of her kind to be built by Ft. Myers Yacht and Shipbuilding in the sunny state of Florida. A unique design feature is her centerboard. This will allow us to tuck into shallow coves with only a 4’06” draft with the board up. If we ever need the stability or upwind performance we can always lower the board to make a 9’00” draft. However, her absolute best asset (in our BIASED opinion) is her center cockpit layout. It is like a party area on deck with huge amounts of space. Her cockpit design with its’ high coamings will greatly enhance the safety of the kids and ourselves while underway, along with keeping us dry. The Brewer 44 even made this list – 10 Best Center Cockpit Cruising Boats.
Her layout below decks is as follows: U-shaped galley, salon/dining area, spacious V-berth with head, navigation station, pass-thru to aft stateroom, engine room, and an incredible master suite with private head and separate shower. Storage wise, she is the bomb. There are hanging lockers, cubbies, shelves, drawers, etc galore.
As we go through our refit, we will have postings and photos that will go into much more detail of YOLO and her systems, layout, etc.
